SIPET: Weapons of chopsticks Dayak

Chopsticks or better known in Central Kalimantan called sipet is one weapon that is often used by the Dayak tribe or by society Malays. Terms of use chopsticks or sipet has advantages because it can be used as long-range weapon and not destroy nature because of the natural material it is made. And one of the advantages of chopsticks or has sipet shooting accuracy that can reach about 218 yards or 200 meters.

Judging from the shape of chopsticks, chopstick has a rounded shape and has a length of between 1.5-2 meters, about 2-3 centimeters in diameter. At the end of this chopstick processed shell targets such as small viewfinder like a diamond the size of 3-5 inches. In the middle of the chopstick as a place of entrance hole damek (kids chopsticks). At the top of the chopstick more precisely targeted at the front of the viewfinder mounted a spear or sangkoh (in Dayak). Sangkoh made of mountain stone and tied with a woven uei (rattan).

The bullet and casing

Types of wood that was used to make chopsticks in general is looking wood, ironwood or tabalien, plepek wood, and wood resak. Not to forget also Tamiang or lamiang, which is kind of small bamboo, beruas long, hard, and contains toxins. Not all people have the expertise to make a chopstick or sipet. On the island of Borneo alone there are only a few tribes have the expertise in the manufacture of chopsticks, the Ot Danum Dayak tribe, Punan, APU Kayan, Bahau, afternoon, and the Dayak tribe Sand.

According to the Dayak tribe trust sipet chopsticks or should not be used to kill each other. Chopsticks or sipet only be used for everyday purposes, such as hunting. Sipet is not permitted or refused to be trampled upon let alone cut with a machete because if it is done it means violating the customary law, which can lead to the perpetrators will be prosecuted in the customary meetings.
