Jakarta Cathedral Building is now located at No. Jl.Katedral. 2, are the work of the architect of the church pastor Father Anthony Dijkmans, SJ. A Dutch priest who served in Indonesia at that time.

Jakarta Cathedral building this magnificent start was founded in 1891 to replace the old church building that collapsed on 9 April 1890 pulul 10:45 pm just 3 days after the celebration of Passover.

Development of this new church had to face many obstacles, in the year 1892 sepat even halted due to financial shortage.

Finally on April 21, 1901, Jakarta Cathedral Church building, built in neo-gothic style, which is named

“De Kerk van Onze Lieve Vrowe tenHemelopneming – Saint Mary’s Assumption to Heaven” was inaugurated and blessed by Msgr. Edmundus Sybradus Luypen, SJ, a Vicar Apostolic Jakarta at the time.

In these bells are inscribed: “I want to greet her; feast of Saint Nicholas”. Meanwhile, the largest bell, named Wilhelmus is a gift from Mr. JH de Wit, who is also blessed in the year 1834.

Entering the room in the church, each person will be immediately captivated by the view that radiate greatness and glory of God. Morning sunlight coming through the stained glass windows add to the beauty of this cathedral church charm.

Solid pillars lined up on both sides of supporting the roof, forming the hall. On both sides there is a gallery at a height of 7 meters, the first place for the choir. It was now no longer used for the choir since his condition is not possible. This place is now partially used for the museum.

The ceiling is made of teak wood to anticipate earthquakes, and instead of the usual stone. Ceiling height is 17 meters.

In the middle of the room, the pews are people pulpit sermon lawyer. The chancel was installed in 1905, with a roof shaped like a shell that serves as a sound reflector. This pulpit was a gift in celebration of the silver party Mgr Luypen Priesthood and inaugurated by Fr Wenneker. Patterned gothic pulpit was made by the firm and Stoltefusz Te Poel in The Hague for 6000 guilders. Sculpture on the front describing Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and the commissioning of the disciples by Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20). Both reliefs were flanked by a statue of St. Carolus Boromeus (protective Pastor Wenneker), St. Edmundus (protective Mgr Luypen) and the statue of St. Peter Canisius (Jesuit saint who came from the Netherlands). Far above the sound reflection board is curved like a giant clam have carved the four Gospel writers. Above the handle right and left stood the first steps the apostle Peter with a key in hand (Matthew 16, 19) and the apostle Paul is holding a book and sword at the foot of the pulpit, while there are eight head of Satan.

On each side of the wall was a painting of the cross street is painted on tiles, created by the graphic artist Theo Molkenboer Amsterdam. The image affixed to the wall began in 1912. In every picture of Jesus was given a gilded aurrola.

In the back corner of the Pieta statue commissioned in 650 Dutch guilders price, installed to replace the old Pieta statue burned in 1957 due to spreading flames.

On the left side and right side of the room there is room for confession of sin, 2 rooms on each side.
