The museum is very thick with the aura of a woman. That is the impression I get when I visit the museum located in the eastern time Boyong, Ground. Perhaps because of this museum as to show the identity of the palace women who has not known many people and a mystery to others. Not many people know the existence, even for the people of Yogyakarta though, although it officially opened this museum from 1997 by KGPAA Paku Alam VIII who was then serving as Governor of Yogyakarta.
Museum, whose name stands for “Ulating Blencong Sejatine tataning Lumaku” which means real life lamp for human life the way it was built dilahan cool and beautiful among the trees at Kaliurang called Kaswargan Park (Paradise Garden). Construction using stone mountain, take many years before he actually finished and inaugurated in 1997.
If you understand a little history of the Mataram kingdom, or royal palace, the palace in Yogyakarta and Solo maybe you’ll find the fun when listening to a separate guide. The goods on display in this museum is a contribution from the daughters of Sultan Palace of Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Mangkunegaran and Pakualaman. Some paintings are the work of ISI Yogyakarta painters who painted from the original photo, but there is also a direct contribution Palace.
Ullen Sentalu Museum has a total of 7 rooms including entrance (Entrance), Guwo Selo Giri and there are 5 rooms in the Village Kambang. Once past the entrance and through the shady path, the guide will take you to Guwo Selo Giri, meaning stone mountain cave (which is taken from Mt. Merapi). In the basement of this tunnel-shaped you can see some photos of Yogyakarta tempo doeloe and some photographs palace dancers in action. Make no mistake, though there are female characters, none of the dancers in old photographs that are women, because in ancient times women were not allowed to dance to the public. So to replace the role is a slender young and supple like a princess palace.
It also Diruangan we like is introduced with some characters who stood out the palace’s daughter, such as Bray. Partini Djayadiningrat (grandmother of the director Dimas Djayadiningrat video clips) that make up the book “Ande-Ande Lumut” and was first published by Balai Pustaka in Antipurbani pseudonym.
In this room we also can see some photos of the family photographer snap the palace at the time of Sultan HB VII Kasian called Cephas. Some women describe the picture that is considered daring poses at that time considered bold, one photograph titled “Denok”, describes the common people woman posing on a simple bed with cloth covering the chest to the knees only. Considered to pose a courageous because in ancient times women were strictly forbidden to raise the cloth exceeding 3 cm from the eyes of his feet..
In addition there is also a woman who at the time the palace was already adept at designing clothes and accessories that Puwoso Retno, wife of the Paku Alam VII who is the daughter of Pakubuwono X. In one of the paintings depicted Puwoso Retno wearing kebaya and a draped feather fan hanging dileher up to the ankles where the form of a fan of the ‘unusual’ that was her own design. Another painting shows a self-portrait Puwoso Retno and her husband who at that time was wearing a ‘tie’ dress worn by greatness. Again, these ties are his own designs.
From this room we also will be invited to consider that no single woman-even the palace is in the picture wearing a ring on her middle finger. This is related to the philosophy of the five fingers so that the allocation of human and middle finger are not allowed to attach anything.
In this room we see a photo of himself and his consort Pakubuwono X which is the daughter of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Indeed PB X already has a queen and dozens of concubines, but because they do not have children of his consort then he took another consort in 1915. PBX administration at the time described the city of Solo to the top glory, it is marked by the construction of more rest house (Tegalgondo, Pengging, Banyubiru and Ampel) or Pasar Gede Harjonagoro.
After the Guwo Selo Giri we’ll be taken to Kampong Kambang consisting of several rooms built over the big pond, moving from one room to another room to give the impression we were walking on the water surface.
The first room of the Village Hall Sekar Kambang is dedicated to Kedaton GRAj. Koes Sapariyam more familiarly called Tineke. Tineke first time to have a love story that is not sanctioned and the room became silent witness how Tineke friends always give support to him through the letters which had been sent in the period 1939-1947. The whole letter was still in good condition so you will not find it difficult to read than existing copies and translated into several languages. Generally, all letters to be enclosed with the sender’s picture and the contents of the letter tends to form poetry.
The next room of the village is Kambang Paes Ageng Yogyakarta space which contains the paintings depicting the wedding of the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta complete with supporting accessory that shows the splendor of the wedding procession itself. Besides enjoying some paintings, the guide will explain to you the philosophy of the accessories worn by the bride, from the beginning until the headwear accessories. Once again it carries the philosophy of Java, such as the amount of interest totaling up an ornament in accordance with the 5 Pillars of Islam, jasmine flowers hanging on the waist as a sign of fertility and rapidly produce an heir and others.
Third space in the Village is Kambang Vorstendlanden space exhibiting Batik batik collections from the Sultanate of Yogyakarta (at the time of Sultan HB VII-IX) and Surakarta (PB during X-XII). Previously batik cloth is not allowed to wear ordinary people, but at the time of his Sultan HB IX allows ordinary people come dressed in batik. The guide will also tell us the philosophical meaning behind the batik motif is now known since the ancient batik makers to fast and wait wangsit before it can find and start making batik motifs. Some of the exhibited collection of batik batik motifs such as Mino Grinsing can purportedly be used to deny black magic, batik Luhur Sido, Sido Mulyo, Sido and Sido Asih Drajad showing loyalty of a wife.
In addition you will be notified by the guide for not wearing a batik motif machete to the proposal, an engagement or marriage because of Parang is a type of batik which is generally used for war, so the wear on the wedding will supposedly make a marriage filled with arguments and hostility.
No more Truntum batik motifs that should not be worn to cover the dead body because it is said Truntum especially batik motifs remain subject to the body will continue to haunt.
The fourth room is a space Pesisiran Batik, which is a collection of batik originated from the North coast of Java. Batik-batik in this room are very beautiful and brighter color even when it is not considered very desirable because there is no value of his philosophy. In this room we can also see the ancient embroidery kebaya that the manufacturing process takes many months for her embroidery machine is very small and old. Although the result was quite beautiful but not embroidered kebaya too interested in the past because it is not loaded with the value philosophy. Kebaya this type generally used by the ethnic mix at the time of Sultan HB VII (c. 1870s).
Space fifth or the last room in the village of Princess Room Kambang is Desire, which is a room dedicated to the GRAy Nurul Kamaril Ngarasati Kusumawardhani Surjosoejarso or better known as Gusti Nurul. She is the daughter of HRH Mangkunegoro VIII and GKR Mursudariyah East. Which makes it very special because this berparas Gusti Nurul beautiful, has a hobby of horse riding, good dancing, playing tennis and swimming. Princess ever dipinang by President Soekarno and Sultan HB IX was rejected polygamy and eventually chose to marry a soldier when he was 30-year numbers. This room contains a collection of photographs of Gusti Nurul from when he was a baby to adulthood. There was a picture described Gusti Nurul was dancing at the wedding of Princess Juliana done ‘teleconference’, which is played on the gamelan music while Solo Gusti Nurul listen to the strains of gamelan music and dance by phone before the wedding guests. Because the phone connection at that time still not as good as it is now the mother is still giving the signal directly in the form of a knock-knock. The room itself was established by Gusti Nurul on birthday 81.
After the Space Princess Desire will be treated to a traditional herb Kusmayana Drink one daughter palace which is believed to make you stay young. This concoction is made from a mixture of ginger, cinnamon, Java sugar, salt and pandan leaves.
Space Princess of Desire, you tour the museum Ullen Sentalu not completely ended, because you still can walk around enjoying the beautiful garden and artistic. A good idea to read the signs provided that you do not get lost.
There is another gallery where Djagad Academic regularly held painting exhibitions are coordinated by “Ulating Blencong” Foundation.
If you tour around the park then you will see Beukenhof Restaurant designed by colonial architect. As a complement the museum provided Besides souvenir shops or Artshop (Nitik Rengganis Bale) who sells batik and other crafts.
Museum Ullen Sentalu like a time machine that brings us to the past to come back refreshed on the history of the palace-court glory in Yogyakarta and Solo. Also because the full value of such philosophical visitors are invited to learn about the practical philosophy of Javanese culture presented with a very interesting by the guide.
It is unfortunate visitors are not allowed to take pictures in the room when the saratnya philosophical and historical value of the goods on display would be nice taking photos also allowed (though perhaps restricted to certain goods). If it does not seem a bit difficult when we want to speak about the contents of the museum without the support of the picture ..
